My family never really got into religion. I have a rich political past, but for the most part my family has always been areligious. Among my ancestors are men accused of social unrest and slander, and until recently have been highly involved in social activism. Emmeline Pankhurst, or Emmeline Goulden as she was known before getting married, was named on Time magazine's list of the 100 Most Important People of the 20th Century, yet she was not religious in the slightest. I also doubt these morals stemmed from any religious background, as the bible often mentions women's inferior status in society; "Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything." (Ephesians 5:22-24)
There are no traditions within my family, no days to celebrate, I have never even attended church. Within the last 200 years at least, religion has had little impact on morals nor values. Emmeline Pankhurst actually changed her birthday to the day earlier, the storming of the Bastille. "I have always thought that the fact that I was born on that day had some kind of influence over my life." Hardly a date of religious importance.
